07/15/2026 Project Update.

Construction Bulletin – Cross Lanes Project-Traffic Switch Update

Weekly Status:

Paving operations continue, with asphalt placement currently prioritized in critical areas where grade transitions and drop-offs are present. Crews are placing asphalt in staged lifts, including the initial base asphalt courses needed to build the roadway section to the required elevations and establish smoother transitions through the active widening limits. Additional base asphalt will be placed as needed to correct grade changes, improve tie-ins to existing pavement, and provide a stable surface for traffic during the current phase of construction. The anticipated traffic switch will take place in the early am hours of 7/20/2026. Attached to the email is a schematic that will provide a layout of the new traffic pattern. This switch will be the last major switch and begin the final phases of the project. During this switch, work will be completed for the widening portioning of the project. This phase is anticipated to last until the fall of 2026.

Beginning 7/16 and 7/17 lane shifts will be utilized to aid in establishing a new traffic pattern that will be utilized beginning in the AM hours of 7/20/2026.

Upcoming Work / Night Operations:

Night operations are anticipated to continue throughout the project lifecycle to support production, maintain traffic flow, and help advance the work toward potential completion ahead of the current March 2027 contract completion date.
During night shifts, crews will continue work activities being performed during daytime operations, including paving support, grading, drainage, utility, electrical, lighting, and traffic control activities as needed to maintain progress and improve overall project efficiency.
Night work will also be used to complete activities that are more efficiently or safely performed during lower-volume traffic periods, helping reduce daytime impacts while supporting the project schedule.

Paving will be performed behind cones and at WV622 and 62 intersection. Flaggers will be used to aid in this process during night shift work.

General Notes:

Nighttime lane closures and traffic shifts are expected to continue as construction progresses.
Additional updates will be provided as significant project milestones are reached.

SUMMARY OF TEMPORARY TRAFFIC CONTROL:

The next planned traffic switch to the new traffic pattern is tentatively scheduled for the Week of 07/20/2026.

During paving operations, flaggers will be used to enhance safety for the traveling public.
The existing traffic pattern will remain in place during paving operations with possible lane closures aided with flaggers to perform required paving.
The traveling public is asked to observe the 25 MPH work zone speed limit while passing through the project area.
Flaggers may also be used during daytime operations to provide additional protection for the traveling public and to assist with truck ingress and egress within the work zone.

FAQ

When will the project begin?

The project began in mid-August 2023.

How long will the project last?

The projected completion date for the project is June 2025. Approximately 22 Months.

NEW: Does the project include constructing a roundabout?

No, the design does not include any roundabouts.

Will work be completed at night or during the day?

Day and Night shifts will be utilized. The contractor will be required to work shifts that have the least amount of impact to the traveling public based of the phase of work being performed at the time.

How many lanes of traffic will be closed during the project?

During construction there will be multiple lane changes and switching of traffic patterns. Lane closures and shifts are necessary to perform all phases of construction. During construction north and south traffic will flow through a guided work zone with work zone construction signs, cones, barrels, and barricades to aid in directing flow of traffic. Some closures will be between the hours of 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The work zone speed limit will be 25 MPH.

Will pedestrian traffic be affected during the project?

Pedestrian traffic will be affected during certain stages of construction. During this time alternative routes may be required through the work zone with special attention to safety, However the contractor will be required to maintain access to all houses, schools, and businesses at all times.

As a business owner will I be notified when construction may interfere with my business location?

The Contractor will notify businesses of updates to changing phases of traffic control in a specific location. The contractor will be required to maintain access at all times.

If traveling to the area should I expect delays?

Please expect delays throughout the time frame of the project. Delays will be based on the current phase, location, and type of construction being performed daily. Delays are anticipated to be in early AM commute hours, Mid-Day hours, and PM commute hours.

Please do not block driveways and intersections.

Why does it appear that construction activities are slower at certain times?

Some phases of work will be performed at night. This gives the perception the contractor is not working during the day. However, work is being performed at night in lieu of normal day time hours.

Is the project on schedule to meet the contractual completion dates?

Currently, the project is under construction with some work beginning as early as August and September to move or relocate utilities. Construction on Sun Valley Drive and on WV 622 recently began. The project is proceeding on schedule.
